City bar's licence suspended after three men stabbed

A Liverpool city centre bar has had its licence suspended after three men were stabbed at the weekend.

Police were called to Tithebarn Street at abut 06:35 BST on Sunday to reports of an altercation between two groups inside GBar in nearby Eberle Street which is thought to have continued outside.

Liverpool City Council's licensing committee has suspended the venue's licence pending another hearing.

An agent for the club told the hearing the owners were "disappointed" by the decision and had been "let down" by the club's management.

Karl Bruder, on behalf of the designated premises supervisor Howard Gwynn, said it was an "unusually exceptional" position for the operators - who run other venues across the city - to find themselves in.

Ch Supt Natalie Perischine of Merseyside Police said: "We have a zero-tolerance approach to anyone who chooses to carry a weapon in the city centre and my message to those individuals is 'we will hunt you down'.

"Officers have been working round the clock to identify those responsible for this shocking incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Within hours of it taking place we had executed a number of warrants and now have three people in custody.

"Our proactive work to combat violence in the city centre remains a priority and we are seeing positive results."

Another licensing hearing is expected to take place in October.
