Trees were uprooted and damage was caused as Storm Boelo made its way across the region at the weekend, damaging cars, closing tourist attractions and leaving homes without power.

One motorist had a close miss in Barton-upon-Humber when a tree was uprooted and fell on his car bonnet while he was driving on Toft Road on Sunday morning.

Humberside Police said a man was taken to hospital for checks but was not injured in the incident.

Louis Taylor, whose own car was written off in the same incident, said "another two feet [and] he'd have been killed".

Louis Taylor said there was "not a lot left" of his car after it was hit by a tree

"I looked out the window and it was just complete devastation," he said. "My car was completely written off."

He said the tree had been reported twice by his neighbours to North Lincolnshire Council as being unsafe.

A spokesperson for the local authority said the severe weather had caused "exceptionally challenging conditions", and its teams had been working to make public spaces safe and "remove obstructions".
