Appeal over racial attack after Hindu celebration
GoogleTwo men suffered head and face injuries in a suspected racially aggravated attack as they left a Hindu celebration in Ossett.
The men had attended the Dussehra and Bathukamma celebration event at the town hall on Saturday when they were targeted between 21:15 BST and 22:15, according to West Yorkshire Police.
They were hit on the head, possibly with a bottle, with one of the man also being punched, causing him to fall to the floor, a force spokesperson said.
Police have appealed for information about a group of youths seen around the town hall at the time of the attack, particularly those who were seen riding Sur-Ron electric bikes or E-bikes.
Insp Andrew Dickinson, of Wakefield West Neighbourhood Policing Team, which covers Ossett, said: "We recognise the distress this incident has caused to those attending Saturday's event and to the wider Hindu community.
"Everyone has the right to attend community events safely and without fear.
"We are treating these assaults seriously and are working to ensure those responsible are held accountable."
