Two vehicles became stranded in the sea after they were caught by the rising tide on a beach.

The black van and blue Range Rover appeared to have been collecting jet skis at North Bay in Scarborough when they became stuck on Friday evening.

HM Coastguard said it received a call at about 18:00 BST and its local rescue team and North Yorkshire Police were sent to the scene.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said it made sure those affected were "safe and well" and provided safety advice, but that it was up to the vehicle owners to arrange recovery.

The vehicles have since been removed from the beach.

North Yorkshire Police has been contacted for comment but no-one is believed to have been injured in the incident.

North Bay is one of the resort's two beaches and is a popular location for people wanting to take part in water sports.

The council restricts vehicle access to the sands by the general public and it is usually permitted only for licensed commercial operators and the emergency services.
