Escaped python rescued from tree by member of public

An escaped python has been plucked "successfully" from a tree by a member of the public, say firefighters.

The snake, thought to be a carpet python which is non-venomous, was retrieved at about 10:00 BST from a tree at Plymouth Hoe near the seafront, according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, which was alerted on Wednesday.

"The person had used a ladder to climb a tree the snake was located in and took it down. The snake has been sent to the local vets," a spokesperson for the fire service said.

Crews have been stood down.
