Village 200-home plan considered after appeal
Avant HomesPlans for up to 200 homes in a village are being considered after a council lost an appeal.
Avant Homes submitted plans for the development near Low Lane and Thornaby Road in Thornaby, on 24 acres (9.7 hectares) of fields but said it would not include a primary school, multi-cultural centre or extension to Maltby Cricket Club.
Stockton Council previously rejected an outline plan for the homes with a neighbourhood centre and community centre dating back to 2018, however a planning inspector allowed an appeal against the decision in April last year.
The development would include one to four-bedroom bungalows, semi-detached and detached houses accessed via a junction from Low Lane.
It also includes 40 affordable homes - homes for sale or rent at discounted rates for people whose needs are not met by the private market.
A statement from the developer said the project would "protect and enhance important wildlife habitats on-site and off-site and create new opportunities for green connections and infrastructure.
"Existing trees and hedges will be retained unless removal is necessary to enable access."
It also said there would be opportunity for new and improved pedestrian links to the site.
The latest plans do not include a primary school, neighbourhood forum or extension to the cricket club, but the statement said this did not mean these could not progress at some stage.
A report said there would need to be a financial contribution to education.
Stockton Council previously said there was no longer a need for a new school due to demographic changes in Ingleby Barwick, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.
