Plans have been lodged to build a temporary 186-space car park to replace parking lost during building works.

Sunderland City Council has applied for permission from its own planning department to build a car park at the Sheepfolds Industrial Estate near the Stadium of Light.

The move is linked to a scheme to build hundred of homes in the area and a consultation is expected to take place before a decision is made on the car park.

If built, it could be in place for up to three years and will replace on and off-street parking lost as part of construction works.

The authority plans to charge for use of the car park, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

It will then be replaced by a permanent car park once the building work is complete.
