Man seriously injured after being assaulted by masked gang

A man in his 30s has been seriously injured after he was assaulted by a gang of up to eight masked men armed with bats.

The incident happened outside a property on Thornhill Drive in Ballyclare, County Antrim, at about 00:40 BST on Sunday.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to "serious injuries caused to his leg, head, wrist and arms", Det Insp Gallagher from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said.

"Those responsible for this attack have shown a complete disregard for human dignity and the rule of the law," he continued.

"This attack has also left the victim with lasting physical and psychological trauma – no one deserves to be attacked in this way. There is no justification for this violence."

Detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed, or has information in relation to the incident, to contact them.
