Crews return to moorland and woodland blaze

Firefighters and mountain rescue teams have returned to a wildfire involving moorland and woodland in Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Tintwistle Moor, above Woodhead Road in Glossop, at 22:11 BST on Wednesday.

After leaving at midnight on Thursday, crews, along with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, returned to the scene at about 05:00 BST on Friday.

The service said about 200 hectares (990 acres) of land was affected by the fire.

Firefighters from Wirksworth, Matlock, Long Eaton, Whaley Bridge and Glossop are in attendance supported by specialist vehicles and a command support vehicle.

The fire service thanked Derby Mountain Rescue Team for providing aerial support with a drone and other organisations for offering support.

A spokesperson said: "We would also like to thank everyone who has reached out and expressed their gratitude to our crews as they continue to work hard in challenging conditions.

"We are also incredibly grateful to those who have offered to donate refreshments.

"At present, we are being supported by the Rapid Relief Team and have sufficient supplies.

"Thank you for thinking of us and for your generosity - it is greatly appreciated."
