Plans to convert playground into artificial pitch

Plans have been submitted for a new sports pitch at a prep school with the aim of providing a year-round playing surface.

Jersey College for Girls Primary School in St Saviour proposed the conversion of its existing playground area into an artificial turf pitch suitable for football and other sports.

In the application the school said the surface of the current play area was worn and no longer met the school's functional requirements.

The new pitch would provide a safe, durable and year-round sports surface, the school said.

The plans showed the pitch would have a permeable base, a shock pad as well as a 3G surface which would be made of synthetic turf, sand infill and rubber infill.

Agent Jersey Property Holdings Design, which submitted the plans, said one tree would have to be removed due to the spread of its roots and canopy.

The Bridging Island Plan would allow such an alteration where it supports necessary community infrastructure, the planning agent said.
