Site where restaurant burned down sold to developers
BBCThe former site of a restaurant that burned down in a huge fire has been sold for redevelopment.
A large fire destroyed the Octopus restaurant in February 2024 and the St Peter Port site has since been cleared. It was listed for sale in April.
In a post on social media, Delphine Pesrin-Auder and Mickael Pesrin, who owned the bar and restaurant said they were delighted to have concluded a "seamless" sale.
They said: "We of course were so sad back in the winter of 2024 when the building was destroyed by a major fire, but we took a deep breath and began the process of thinking and planning our next steps."
The pair said their intention was to "speedily rebuild Octopus from the ashes" but "over time we came to realise that for us sadly rebuilding was just a step too far".
After two years we have found a new owner to take on the wonderful redevelopment opportunity that this iconic site warrants and we wish them well with their plans," they said.
