The A27 in East Sussex is closed in both directions after a serious crash, police have said.

The two-vehicle crash happened between the Pevensey roundabout and the roundabout at Golden Jubilee Way, near Eastbourne, at about 06:30 BST on Monday.

Diversions have been put in place, National Highways say.

One person was taken to hospital in a serious condition, South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) said.

There is congestion on the approach westbound, according to National Highways. There were also delays on the A27 which have since cleared.

Motorists travelling eastbound are advised to exit the A27 at the A22 Golden Jubilee Way roundabout and turn right onto the A22, follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol and rejoin the road at Pevensey Roundabout with the A259.

Westbound traffic is urged to exit the A27 westbound at A259 Pevensey roundabout and follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol.

National Highways contractors will be assisting with traffic management, it said.

Ambulance crews and critical care paramedics were joined by Helicopter Emergency Medical Services at the scene, Secamb said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
