Hospital entrance and parking get £3.7m facelift

A £3.7m scheme to refurbish the main entrance to the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham, which will see adjacent parking reorganised, has begun.

Major structural maintenance is needed to make the area waterproof, protect the A&E department below, and have the two bridges leading to it strengthened.

Alongside this, the scheme includes redesigned car parking, new drop off spaces, a refurbished canopy cover for pedestrians, new secure bicycle storage, and a new main entrance lobby.

During the work, which is due to be completed by next spring, one half of the area is closed off to the public and special access arrangements are in place.

Vehicle access to the main entrance is being maintained via one bridge but only short term drop-offs are permitted.

Blue Badge users are being warned there are no spaces in this area and an alternative car park must be used.

Stuart Malcolm, deputy director of estates and facilities at NUH, said: "This is an important investment in the infrastructure of Queen's Medical Centre that will help protect critical clinical areas, improve the resilience of our estate and enhance the experience for patients, visitors and staff.

"While the essential waterproofing and structural works are our priority, we are pleased to be able to take this opportunity to modernise the Main Entrance and create a more welcoming arrival point for everyone using the hospital.

"We recognise that these works will cause some temporary disruption and we would like to thank our patients, visitors and colleagues for their patience and understanding while we deliver these important improvements."
