Boil water notice issued to homes in Chagford

About 900 properties in Devon have been told to boil their water as a precautionary measure due to a burst water main.

South West Water (SWW) said an area in Chagford had been affected and it could not say how long the measures would be in place.

The water company said the precautionary measure had been put in place while it undertook the "necessary checks on the water supply following the complex repair of a burst water main".

It said it was communicating directly with affected customers and that they would be updated "regularly on the situation", with bottled water delivered to its priority customers.

SWW said: "We can't say how long the boil water notice will be in place, but it can usually be lifted after two days of clear results. We therefore expect that customers will be able to use their supplies as normal later this week.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working hard to resolve the issues as quickly as possible."

South West Water added a bottled water station would be available at Chagford Primary School.
