Tributes paid to 'much loved' high school teacher

Tributes have been paid to a "much-loved and highly valued" secondary school teacher who has died.

Shrewsbury High School confirmed teacher Rory Allen had died following an "incredibly brave battle" with cancer.

The school said he was a "calm, kind and dedicated professional", who would be "deeply missed" by staff and students.

Members of the school community have been invited to leave messages in a book of condolence in the independent school's Old Library.

A post on the school's Facebook page said: "It is with profound sadness that we share the news that Rory Allen, a much-loved and highly valued member of our teaching staff at Shrewsbury High School, has passed away after a short but incredibly brave battle with cancer.

"He was a calm, kind and dedicated professional, as well as a genuinely warm, humorous and proud man, who gave a great deal of himself to those around him.

"He will be deeply missed by us all."

Dozens of comments have been left, paying tribute to Allen.

"The sad news really has hit us hard, taken so young, but Mr Allen definitely left his mark, very popular, liked by everyone, the world has lost a gentleman," one said.

Another commented: "What a terrible and untimely loss for his family and all his friends, colleagues and pupils."

"Remembering an inspiring, energetic, positive colleague with a big heart and a big smile."

Another added: "Such a brilliant and kind-hearted human being, Rory was a great inspiration and was universally admired by pupils, staff, and parents alike."
