'Dive bar' clarifies My Chemical Romance gig mix-up
BBCBar staff with an upcoming themed My Chemical Romance night were shocked to see ticket sales soar and get messages asking about an upcoming gig.
Aaron Lythe, owner of Play Middlesbrough, said he was relaxing at home when he began to get a wave of notifications from friends telling him it is nice to see him "booking bigger bands".
Lythe said Skiddle, the ticket sellers for the October theme night, had tagged My Chemical Romance to the event description and it looked like they were actually doing a gig.
He said "it will still be a great night" but the band will actually be playing in America on that night. Skiddle have been approached for comment.
"Messages have been flooding in all week asking if it is real," Lythe said.
"I can see ticket sales and you can see postcodes and there are postcodes I don't recognise."
SpotifyThe furthest postcode staff have spotted was from Torquay in Devon.
Lythe said Spotify also alerted fans of My Chemical Romance through their app to the themed night and ticket sales spiked.
Staff said they had been bombarded by queries asking if the event is real.
Lythe said: "We have had to send a few emails explaining My Chemical Romance will not be playing a dive bar in Middlesbrough the same night they are playing Hollywood Bowl in America."
The themed night will be going ahead on 23 October.
