Man jailed for daylight zombie knife stabbing

A man who stabbed his victim with a zombie knife in Derbyshire has been jailed.

Luke Hurdowar pulled up in a car alongside the other man in Cotmanhay Road, Cotmanhay, near Ilkeston, just after 12:00 BST on 26 June last year.

The pair, who were known to each other, began arguing and after the victim threw punches at him, 24-year-old Hurdowar pulled a 30cm knife from the waistband of his trousers and stabbed him twice before driving away.

At Derby Crown Court this month, Hurdowar, of no fixed address, was jailed for three years and nine months.

The force said the victim was taken to hospital following the attack, while Hurdowar was spotted nearby travelling in the same car he had left the scene in.

He attempted to run away from officers, but was detained by police dog Ultor and its handler.

Hurdowar later admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of a bladed article.

Following the sentence, Det Con Danielle Causer said the stabbing was "a brazen attack in the middle of the day".

Police said Hurdowar's victim had collapsed on the pavement bleeding heavily.

Causer added: "Had there not been people around to come to the victim's aid in the immediate aftermath of this incident, the outcome could have been very different."
