Arrest after four pedestrians hurt in hit-and-run

A man has been arrested after four pedestrians were injured in a hit-and-run while they were crossing a road in Leicester city centre.

Leicestershire Police said it happened in Vaughan Way, at a crossing towards the junction with Highcross Street, at 22:12 BST on Saturday, and involved a silver vehicle which failed to stop.

Three men were taken to hospital with serious injuries, the fourth man got up and walked away and was not taken to hospital, said officers.

Following inquiries, a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed limit for alcohol, and causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody.

A vehicle believed to be involved in the collision has been identified and inquiries are ongoing, added the force.

Police said there were a number of people in the area at the time and would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or the lead up to it to get in touch.

If anyone was driving in the area and captured any relevant dashcam footage, police would like to speak to you.

Vaughan Way was closed while inquiries were ongoing but has since been re-opened.
