Man in hospital after crashing into pub's wall
BBCA driver in his 20s has been taken to hospital after crashing into the wall outside a pub.
Wiltshire Police said officers were called to the crash involving a Volkswagen Polo outside the Old Lane pub in Pewsham at 20:10 BST on Thursday.
About 50 people were inside the pub taking part in its weekly quiz at the time of the incident.
One person, who wished to remain anonymous, told the BBC there was a "sudden bang" and that the pub closed afterwards.
"Everyone looked up to see a car in the garden of the pub," they said.
"It looked like a couple of nurses took charge, and the emergency services were there pretty quickly.
"If it had happened a couple of hours earlier, or a few weeks ago at that time, it could have been a very different story, as that garden can get busy with customers sitting around picnic tables."
The quiz was suspended and then cancelled, they added.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident in Pewsham at 8.10pm in which a Volkswagen Polo had crashed into a wall outside the Old Lane pub.
"The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital and the road was closed for a short time whilst recovery for the vehicle was arranged."
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: "We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance, and an operations officer to the scene.
"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Great Western Hospital."
