Officer dragged in road during arrest attempt
Lancashire PoliceA man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and possession of Class A drugs, after a police officer was dragged by a vehicle while trying to intervene during a suspected drug deal.
It happened on James Nelson Way in Nelson, just north of Burnley, at about 22:20 BST on 17 October, Lancashire Police said.
As the constable attempted to arrest the driver of a Renault Megane, the suspect reversed the vehicle in an effort to escape, dragging the officer and throwing him into the road.
The officer sustained injuries to his knee, leg, hand, forearm and shoulder, the force said.
The suspect drove off at high speed, after crashing into some metal railings.
The officer and his colleague followed the car into a nearby cul-de-sac, where they blocked it in and removed the man from the driver's seat, police said.
The 25-year-old man from Colne was arrested on suspicion of attempted wounding and possession of Class A drugs, after a quantity of what was suspected to be cocaine was also found in the car.
He has since been interviewed and released under investigation while inquiries continue.
Despite his injuries, the constable was back on duty the next day.
