An eight-mile (13km) long oil spill has been reported on a road in the north of Shetland between Toft and Voe.

Drivers have been urged to take care on the A968 - the Dales Lees road - because of a "slippery and hazardous" surface in many places.

Shetland Islands Council said the origin of the spill was unknown, and added that staff had placed signs and sand along sections of the route.

Motorists have also been asked to use headlights and rear fog lights in parts where there is low cloud and reduced visibility to better see affected areas.
