A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman died in a crash.

A black Mazda crashed at the Alderley Roundabout on the A34 Melrose Way, in Nether Alderley, Cheshire, at about 01:00 BST on Friday and the driver fled on foot, Cheshire Police said.

A 21-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the back of the car, died at the scene. Two other passengers, a 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, were taken to hospital.

A 36-year-old man, from Macclesfield, is being questioned in police custody.

Relatives of the woman from Macclesfield who died are being supported by specialist officers.

Cheshire Police is appealing for witnesses or CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the car.

Det Sgt Sime said: "This is a tragic incident in which a young woman has sadly lost her life and our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time."

He said officers were keen to hear from anyone who thought they may have seen the black Mazda in the run-up to the incident.

The vehicle was believed to have been travelling on the A34 from Wilmslow towards Monks Heath, he added.
