Three in hospital as crash shuts major road
GoogleThree people were taken to hospital following a crash overnight which has left a major road shut.
The A69 in Northumberland remains closed between West Denton and Throckleyas a result of the the accident which happened at about 00:30 BST.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two vehicles were involved in the crash and they freed a woman trapped in one of them.
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said several crews were sent to the scene together with the Great North Air Ambulance Service and three patients were taken to the the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
Vehicles were being diverted on to local routes through Throckley and Walbottle on Wednesday morning, with commuters reporting very slow traffic through the villages.
The road, which connects centres such as Hexham and Carlisle with Newcastle and the A1, was closed in both directions between the B6528 and A608/B6323.
The BBC has approached police for comment.
