Merseyside Police made the arrests after carrying out raids in Liverpool and Sefton

Ten people have been arrested after firearms and a large amount of drugs were seized in police raids on Merseyside.

A large amount of cannabis and Class A drugs were found at various addresses in Liverpool and Sefton earlier - with officers finding a shotgun, assault rifle, revolver and two other rifles at one property.

Nine men and one woman, all aged between 32 and 55, were held on suspicion of various crimes including cultivating cannabis.

Merseyside Police said it was part of an investigation into serious organised crime and it was believed the weapons were all "viable".

"I hope the action taken today shows that we are determined to rid our streets of dangerous firearms and drugs that cause misery for local people in our communities," Det Supt Tony Roberts said.

"We all know too well the devastation that one firearm can cause, and we use all available powers to target and bring to justice those who supply, store, possess and use firearms."
