Two more men charged in sex offences inquiry
Stuart Woodward/BBCTwo more men have been charged as part of an investigation into rape, sexual offences and human trafficking for exploitation.
Richard Howard-Smith, 35, a town councillor in Maldon, and Eldred Reames, 24, both of Southwood Chase, Danbury, in Essex, were arrested on Thursday and have now been charged with multiple offences including rape and sexual assault.
They were in custody and were expected to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Saturday, a spokesperson for Essex Police said.
During the investigation, officers have searched Maldon and Tiptree Football Club and other locations.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, and his husband Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, of Southwood Chase, Danbury, were arrested on 8 May.
They bought the football club in 2025.
They have been charged with rape, sexual offences and human trafficking for exploitation and will remain in custody until they appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 5 June.
Maldon Town Council said Howard-Smith had voluntarily stepped aside from official duties when the investigation began.
