Man faces firearms charges over air rifle shooting

A man has been charged with violence and firearms offences after an incident in Barnsley when a woman was shot with an air rifle.

Officers were called to Windsor Street in Thurnscoe at 21:50 BST Tuesday following reports of a person with a suspected firearm.

Officers attended the scene and found a woman with serious injuries after being shot with an air rifle. She was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Brandon Champion, 28, of Windsor Street, has been charged with Section 18 assault, possession of an air weapon when prohibited for five years, and possession of ammunition for an air weapon when prohibited for five years.

A woman, 26, who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a man, 37, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been bailed.
