Resort revs up for 'spectacular' bike show

Hundreds of motorcycles and trikes of every style and era will be on display at the annual Hornsea Bike Show this weekend.

Rachael Charlton, one of the organisers, said the show continued to grow in popularity and brought visitors into the town.

"All the shops are busier, all the pubs and bars are busier. It's all about investing back into the town."

The free event is taking place at Hall Garth Park from 09:00 to 18:00 BST on Sunday.

In addition to the motorcycles, the event also features live music, stalls, fairground rides, food and refreshments.

"We're very excited," Charlton said.

"I think we've got over 50 trade stalls coming this year and we'll have live music playing throughout the day from midday.

"It's a free event for everybody to enjoy."

Charlton said the event, which started in 2015, was taken over by a new committee last year.

"We took it over last year and we have just built on its success.

"Last year, we counted just short of 2,000 bikes."

She added: "We've got a beautiful park with a natural amphitheatre for the live music, but to try and get that many bikes into the park in one day is a challenge in itself.

Charlton said she had lived in Hornsea her whole life, adding it was an honour to represent the town by putting on such a "fantastic event".

Asked what people loved about motorcycles, she said: "I think it's just something a little bit different.

"When they're all polished up with the chrome is all shining.

"It's the sound, it's the smell.

"There aren't that many bike shows around, and they are spectacular."

She said one of her favourite bikes from last year was a gold Harley-Davidson, which won best in show.

"It was absolutely stunning," she added.
