Man pulled from the sea off Essex dies

A man has died after getting into difficulty in the water off the north-east Essex coast.

He was brought ashore at Frinton-on-Sea but pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police and paramedics were called to the beach, near to The Esplanade, at about 14:00 BST.

The man becomes the fourth casualty at sea in Essex in just over a week, after three people died following an incident in West Mersea on 22 July.

"His family have been informed and are being supported. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time," an Essex Police spokesman said.

"Emergency service personnel remain at the scene and our response is continuing."

People have been asked to avoid the area while crews carry out their inquiries.

An air ambulance landed on the seaside town's Greensward as the emergency unfolded.

It is the latest tragedy on Essex's coastline during the past week.

Seven-year-old Musa Ahmed died in hospital on Tuesday after an incident in the water in West Mersea on 22 July.

His 15-year-old cousin and her mother, 41, drowned at the scene of the same emergency.

Then on Saturday, a man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being pulled from the water near Clacton Pier.

Two other people - a man aged in his 20s and a teenage girl - were also rescued.
