Bomb experts find suspected explosive is safe

An object which police believed was an unexploded ordnance device has been deemed safe.

Norfolk Police was called to Allens Lane in Sprowston, Norwich at about 11:30 BST and put a 100m (328ft) cordon in place.

Bomb disposal experts were called to deal with the item at 16:30 and found it was not ordnance and was not explosive.

The force said the cordon had been stood down and residents could return to their homes.

A number of road closures were put in place and emergency services attended the scene.

Broadland District Council and Sprowston Town Council had set up an evacuation area at the nearby Diamond Centre in School Lane, for people unable to access their homes.

Cadent Gas has been at the site assisting residents whose gas supply has been disrupted.
