Cannabis plants worth £400,000 seized by police

An illegal cannabis farm containing hundreds of plants has been seized by the police.

It was discovered on Saturday at a property on Falkland Street in Middlesbrough, where the electricity supply had been bypassed so it could be used to power the farm.

Cleveland Police said the building contained about 400 plants which were worth approximately £400,000.

No-one has so far been arrested in connection with the find.

The public is being urged to stay alert to cannabis factories being set up in their neighbourhoods.

The force said signs a property is being used to grow cannabis include:

• People and vehicles coming and going during the day and night
• Seeing boxes, pipes, lighting equipment, plastic sheeting, bags of fertilizer or building materials being taken to the property
• Hearing fans inside the building
• Smelling the plants
