Father-to-be on coping with a cancer diagnosis
Humber Health Partnership / FamilyA young father-to-be is undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with a rare cancer.
Ryan Storey from Beverley found a lump under his armpit while carrying shopping last summer which was discovered to be Burkitt's lymphoma, which only affects 210 people in the UK each year.
The 28-year-old said the diagnosis of Stage Four cancer "came out of the blue" as he had no other signs or symptoms.
He is charting his progress on social media as he undergoes chemotherapy at Castle Hill Hospital's Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Unit.
Storey said he hoped to spend as much time as possible with his fiancée Anais and his son, who is due to be born in a couple of weeks time.
"Our baby has given me something to fight for," he said.
"I'm trying my hardest to get as much time as I possibly can to spend with him, hopefully the rest of my life, and if not then a couple of months, years, or whatever it is, I just want to make the most of my time with my family."
He initially started sharing updates on TikTok and Instagram as a way of keeping family and loved ones informed of his treatment.
Now his posts have attracted a larger audience, many of whom are also undergoing cancer treatment.
"I've had lots of ups and downs already, but sharing my story will give us something to look back on and help to spread awareness," he said.
"I've had hundreds of messages from other people with cancer who have told me that my content has helped them feel better about starting chemotherapy, or where people have been feeling down but my videos have given them hope and shown that you can still get out, do stuff and be positive."
