British Grand Prix policing 'as rigorous as ever'
Northamptonshire PoliceMotorsport fans have been told to expect a "rigorous" policing effort at next month's British Grand Prix.
Northamptonshire Police said specialist resources, including armed officers, search teams, and live facial recognition (LFR) units will be in place at the Silverstone Circuit between 2-5 July.
The circuit is anticipating another record attendance after 500,000 people visited across the race weekend in 2025, but tickets remain on sale for all four days of the event.
The force's event commander, Supt Pete Basham, said officers would make "it clear that criminal behaviour will not be tolerated".
Police said only a small number of incidents required officers' intervention at last year's race, with 34 crimes reported and 20 arrests made.
Basham said: "While we have many years of experience policing this event, our planning begins months in advance and remains as rigorous as ever.
"We've worked closely with organisers, security teams and partner agencies to coordinate resources, mutual aid and prepare detailed operational plans."
The event commander added that the use of LFR would again be a "valuable tool" in preventing and detecting crime, but he encouraged the public to take a "vital role" in reporting "anything that feels unusual or suspicious".
He said: "With the national terrorism threat level currently at 'severe', meaning an attack is highly likely, it's important we all remain vigilant."
Details of the operation at the circuit have been published on the force's website, along with safety advice for those attending.
