More than 60 compete in city's 'Strongest' contest

More than 60 competitors went head to head in events including weightlifting and truck-pulling in a city centre test of strength.

A crowd of about 1,000 gathered on Saturday to watch the second Peterborough’s Strongest competition in Cathedral Square.

The event was organised by Peterborough Positive in partnership with Royals Gym.

Pep Cipriano, chief operating officer at Peterborough Positive, called the event a “diverse, family-friendly experience” and said: “Peterborough’s Strongest has the potential to grow and become widely recognised as a must-see event in our city.”

Prior to the event Sam Fowler, founder of Royals Gym, said: “Last year’s inaugural event for Peterborough was excellent for all involved.

“We run several strongman competitions throughout the year and there’s something special about being able to stage the Peterborough one in the middle of the city centre."

Ella Payne was crowned strongest woman and Ralph Suggett won the junior category.

Arron Blowes, Tony Gibbons, and Kevin Campbell won the novice, intermediate and beginners categories respectively.
