Video diary shows harsh conditions of peatland wildfire

Three firefighters from one of the country's only volunteer fire brigades have captured footage of themselves tackling a major fire which has been burning for nearly a month.

The team from Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade joined efforts to tackle the fire at Holme Fen Nature Reserve, near Peterborough, after it broke out on 8 August and drew support from crews across the country.

At its peak, firefighters faced what were described as "unpleasant" conditions, including fallen trees, limited water supplies, difficult access and hot temperatures.

Volunteer firefighter Samuel Pumpr said he was pushed straight into the operation after returning from holiday, adding that he was called out 10 minutes from his train arriving at Peterborough.
