Work on school's £2.4m extension completed

A school's £2.4m expansion project has been completed in time for the autumn term.

Two new classrooms have been built as part of the extension at Hampton Dene Primary School in Hereford, which Herefordshire Council said would provide modern and flexible learning spaces.

The school sought the extension to increase the capacity of its special educational needs and disabilities department, which was 50% oversubscribed, by a total of 16 pupils.

The work has also seen two new gardens created, along with improvements to the parking area and existing outdoor spaces.

Headteacher Liz Kearns said: "The new facilities have enhanced our provision at Hampton Dene, and will help us to provide our children with the very best care and education within the local community."

A ceremony marking the end of the development was recently held at the site, during which a time capsule containing items chosen by pupils was buried.

Councillor Harry Bramer, of Herefordshire Council, said he was "delighted" to see the project completed on time and within budget.

"These new facilities are an asset for the Hampton Dene Primary School community and will provide modern, inclusive and sustainable education facilities for the pupils and staff for years to come," he added.
