Library in town could move under plans

A library in Nottinghamshire could move location if plans for a new premises are approved.

Ashfield District Council said Kirkby-in-Ashfield's library and learning centre could go from its current site in Idlewells shopping centre to part of a planned apartment complex in Ellis Street.

Work on the apartments "is due to start in the coming weeks", the council said, adding the proposed library "would complement the new homes".

The plans are dependent on funding for the scheme being approved by the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board.

Matthew Relf, executive lead for growth, regeneration and local planning for the district council, said: "If the proposal gets the green light, it will be a great move for the council and Inspire, bringing living and learning together in one place.

"The new building has always been about regeneration and bringing life and community use to the space around the plaza, and the library is a perfect tenancy for this purpose."
