Ex-Wolves manager takes on club abseil challenge

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy will abseil down the Molineux Stadium to raise money for the club's official charity.

He will join broadcaster Suzi Perry, an ambassador for the Wolves Foundation, for the annual event which takes place on Saturday.

Participants will climb to the top of the Billy Wright Stand and abseil down to the pitch.

BBC Radio WM's Mark Rhodes, also a charity ambassador, is also taking part in the event and will be presenting live from Molineux between 10:00 and 14:00 BST.

He said he was looking forward to the "awesome" event, although he was "petrified" of heights.

"I have been since I was little," he told listeners on Tuesday.

"It's not been something that has recently happened, and it's got worse with my age."

But he said would be able to cope and wanted to try something different, so agreed to do it.

"I've never done an abseil before because I hate heights, so I am going to do that but I am absolutely petrified."

Mick, who was a "huge" advocate of the club's work in the community during his nearly six years as manager, will be returning to Wolves for the challenge 20 years on from his tenure, the club said.

The abseil happens between 09:00 and 13:00 BST.
