A contract with a construction firm for the new hospital at Overdale has been signed, the Government of Jersey has announced.

Its New Healthcare Facilities Programme said the Overdale Acute Hospital Main Works Contract had been agreed with its preferred main contractor Bouygues UK appointed as the project's main works delivery partner.

Plans for the hospital were unanimously approved in February 2025 and a budget of £710m was previously agreed.

The acute hospital programme include an emergency department as well as radiology and maternity services.

The government said the contract was within the budget agreed by the States Assembly for Phase 1 of the New Healthcare Facilities Programme.

In September 2024 the government said a public consultation had demonstrated "support" for the concept designs for the acute hospital at Overdale in St Helier and its timeline for delivery by 2028.

The announcement comes two days ahead of the Jersey's election on Sunday.

Plans for a new hospital and has been in development since 2012.

In November figures released by the treasury and resources minister showed the cost of developing Jersey's new hospital and related healthcare facilities had reached £204.2m since 2012.

Jersey's health minister said in April that a deal had not yet been signed with a contractor to build a new hospital because he wanted to make sure it would provide a "fair deal" for islanders.
