Police are dealing with a security alert at the train station in the Waterside area of Londonderry.

The station is closed, as are a number of roads, including the lower deck of the Craigavon Bridge, and people are being asked to avoid the area.

Foyle Road, Dales Corner and Simpsons Brae are also closed, police said.

SDLP councillor Sean Mooney said the alert was causing "massive disruption for people trying to get home from work".

"The impact of this at this time of the day is awful for commuters at the end of the day," he said.

Translink said a number of its services, including the Foyle Metro and Goldliner "are disrupted and delayed."
