LASK holds silence for Celtic fan who died during Champions League match
SNSAustrian champions LASK have held a silence in memory of a Celtic supporter who died when the sides met in Glasgow last week.
The 65-year-old fan became ill in the stadium during the first leg of the Champions League play-off at Celtic Park on Wednesday.
He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.
Ahead of the return leg in Linz - which kicked off at 20:00 - LASK confirmed they wished to pay tribute to the supporter.
During the silence, fans held a banner that read: "Rest in peace, James".
Writing on social media, Celtic said: "LASK has contacted Celtic to advise that they wish to observe a period of silence prior to tonight's match in tribute to our supporter who fell ill and tragically passed away following last week's first leg at Celtic Park.
"We send our thanks and appreciation to LASK."
Last week Celtic thanked the emergency services and fellow fans for their efforts in dealing with the "tragic incident".
A club statement added: "We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and we will ensure that we offer them our full support at this extremely difficult time."
Martin O'Neill's team hold a 3-0 advantage going into the match at the Raiffeisen Arena.
The winner will progress to the lucrative group stage of the Champions League.
