Former cold war bunker up for sale for £45,000
Phil Harrison/BBCA former cold war bunker has been put for sale for a guide price of £45,000.
The bunker, in Folkestone, Kent, can only be accessed by a ladder and was built by the Ministry of Defence in 1971, as a Royal Observation Corps Monitoring Post.
Sam Fogarty, from Miles & Barr estate agents, says the bunker is "sizeable" when you get in it but on the surface, it is disguised with two "inconspicuous" pieces of concrete.
It is believed to be the last of 1,500 bunkers that were built in the UK.
The bunker was built during the Cold War and its purpose was to spot nuclear explosions and track radioactive fallout during an atomic war.
Phil Harrison/BBCNone of the original interior fixtures and fittings remain, but the agent says the bunker stays dry with a reasonable temperature year-round, despite the weather outside.
Fogarty says that the property has been "on and off" the market but is "standout for us".
Speaking to BBC Radio Kent, he said: "It's rare to get a site like this close to a main road.
"It's pretty incredible."
The bunker, which goes 4m (13ft) deep, has not been actively since 1991.
Fogarty added: "It's a fun one to have on the market."
