Police attacked by 'large group' of football fans in Stirling

Police have appealed for information after two officers were assaulted by a large group of football supporters as they made an arrest at Stirling railway station.

The incident, which happened early Sunday evening, involved fans travelling to Edinburgh following Hibernian's match with St Johnstone in Perth earlier that day.

British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were surrounded and assaulted by the group of supporters as they moved to arrest a man who had been abusive to other officers on board the train from Perth.

The supporters then left the scene and boarded a train to Edinburgh Park railway station.

A BTP spokesperson said: "Detectives believe that there were many people on the station platform that may have seen the incident, and are urging them to come forward to support the investigation."
