Fire burns 400 tonnes of waste at recycling centre

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service fought the blaze throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning

Firefighters have been battling to control 400 tonnes of waste that caught alight at a recycling centre.

They were called to the site in Falconer Road, Haverhill, Suffolk, at 21:46 BST on Saturday.

Six fire engines, an aerial ladder and two water carriers have been in use to tackle the flames.

"Due to smoke from the site, people living close by are advised to keep doors and windows closed," the Suffolk fire service said, in an update on Sunday morning.

It said crews were making "good progress" and that machinery was being used to move waste away.
