Arrests in crackdown on organised vehicle crime

Fourteen people have been arrested as part of a police operation targeting organised vehicle crime.

South Yorkshire Police made the arrests after carrying out searches at multiple caravan sites in Doncaster.

The force also seized a number of vehicles and vehicle parts during the raids in Mexborough and Bentley on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson said those arrested, including a 17-year-old boy, had been held on suspicion of offences including theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods and dangerous driving.

Det Insp Jim Smith said: "When a vehicle is stolen by those involved in organised crime, it's often broken down in chop shops, used to commit further offences or traded within wider criminal networks.

"That activity brings more crime, violence and antisocial behaviour to our communities and that's why we're keen to keep targeting those involved in these networks."
