Yellow weather warning for thunderstorms issued
PA MediaA yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for much of the south-west of England by the Met Office until 23:59 BST.
The warning covers Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Plymouth, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Torbay, Wiltshire and parts of Hampshire.
The Met Office said some flooding of a few homes and businesses was "possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures".
It added that some short-term loss of power and other services was "likely", and there was a "good chance" driving conditions would be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail.
Problems affecting travel could lead to longer journey times by car and bus, with delays to train services possible, it added.
Forecasters said that, while many places would miss the worst conditions, where thunderstorms did occur, they brought the potential for torrential downpours of rain, frequent lightning, large hail and strong, gusty winds.
