Cannabis farm discovered in rooms above pub

Police discovered a cannabis farm with about 150 plants above a pub in Nottingham city centre.

Officers said they were called to The Horn in Hand, in Goldsmith Street, after being contracted by a gas company on Thursday morning.

They said about 70 plants were found across five rooms on the third floor of the building, with roughly 80 more found in the roof space. Growing equipment was also discovered and the electricity supply had been bypassed.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said nobody was found in the property, which was cordoned off while investigations took place.

Insp Shakeel Rasul said: "We are extremely pleased that this cannabis will not find its way on to the streets of Nottingham or the wider community and would like to thank the gas company for bringing the grows to our attention.

"The grows will now be dismantled and we will be looking to secure a closure order for the property to prohibit any unauthorised person from returning to the property while we continue to investigate."

The discovery has come as Operation Reclaim, an operation to target criminals in the city centre, continues.
