Probe after dead rabbits found hanging from trees
Getty ImagesThe discovery of several dead rabbits hanging from trees in Rotherham has sparked the launch of an investigation by the RSPCA.
One dead wild rabbit was found by a passer-by in a wooded area in Haugh Road, Rawmarsh, opposite Rawmarsh Comprehensive, on 4 April, while three further rabbits were found in similar circumstances four days later, according to the animal charity.
Animal Rescue Officer Mark Richardson said he believed the rabbits had been intentionally killed and then thrown into the trees in the hope a bird of prey would take the bodies away.
Richardson said: "It was really distressing for the passer-by to come across this awful incident."
The RSPCA urged anyone who had seen anything suspicious in the area, or who had first-hand information that could assist the investigation, to get in contact.
