Lifeboat rescues French vessel taking on water

A lifeboat crew had to leave its post during an airshow in order to rescue a French vessel.

The Jersey Lifeboat Association said it was providing safety cover for the International Air Display when the coastguard tasked it to assist a boat which had started taking on a lot of water while in St Aubin's bay.

At about 15:15 BST, the inshore lifeboat found "significant volumes of water" within the boats engine bay and used a salvage pump to help remove it.

The team said it was assisted by the vessel's owners to locate the area where the water was coming from and to stem it before towing the boat, which had four people on board, to St Helier Harbour just before 16:00.
