Emergency services were called to the fire on Mason Street on Friday evening

Two boys who died in a house fire in Wolverhampton have been named by police as three-year-old J'Saun and one-year-old Xaliq.

The pair - whose surnames were not shared by the West Midlands force - were removed from the property on Mason Street by firefighters on Friday evening, but they were declared dead at the scene.

Two other children and a woman were already out of the house before emergency services arrived. They were checked over, but did not need hospital treatment.

A woman in her 30s arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of two children has been released on bail while the investigation continues, police say.

They stated they were continuing to work with West Midlands Fire Service to establish the cause of the blaze.

Det Insp David Cooper, from the force's Public Protection Unit, said the investigation to "establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire continues".

The force was "supporting the family of the two young boys at this devastating time", he added.

The family of the two boys "have asked that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with the tragedy", police said.

Officers were called to the fire at about 20:30 BST, along with other emergency service colleagues.

Police said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued two young children.

They added "despite the best efforts of the emergency services nothing could be done to save them and they were pronounced dead at the scene".
