Guernsey Post said it is introducing a tracking service for customers sending letters and parcels to the UK

Extra postal services are being introduced for people sending items to the UK.

Guernsey Post said from 6 July, a tracking option would be brought in for letters and parcels up to 2kg (4.4lbs) along with pricing for special deliveries being reduced by £1.

It added mail heading to the UK would be delivered by boat as part of a "more cost-effective, resilient and financially sustainable operating model", but urgent items which required next day delivery could use a scheduled flight from Aurigny.

While the changes are set to extend delivery times by 24 hours, Guernsey Post chief executive, Steve Sheridan, said it would help "ensure a financially sustainable service for the future".

"It also allows us to introduce better-value options, including our new tracked service, which offers a lower price than standard mail on some weight steps, along with the reassurance of tracking," Sheridan added.

"For customers with time-critical items, we are also introducing a next day by air option, ensuring urgent deliveries remain supported whilst we test this service."

Guernsey Post said further details about the services would be available on its website from 17 June.
